Baby Pictures

Open mouth, insert foot.

"It was embarrassing, like… well, you know when you bring a girl home and your mom gets out the baby pictures…"

As soon as I said it I knew what I'd done. Good one, Colonel. Not everyone got to have that particular embarrassing experience, you know.

I saw Murdock glance over at Face. Hell, at least Murdock had baby photos, even if it was his grandmother that had shown them to the girlfriends. BA had chuckled in recognition of the whole baby pictures situation. But then fell silent as he felt the sudden tension from the back seat.

It's strange though. Face normally covers something like that with a laugh, doesn’t show he's bothered. But this time he looked serious, almost distressed. I couldn’t have caused that surely? It was insensitive but not that bad.

To my surprise Murdock reached out and put his hand over Face's. They looked at each other, communicating something without a word exchanged, the way they do. Then Face nodded at Murdock. Murdock squeezed Face's hand then let go. He turned to me.

"There's something you need to know about that guy AJ Bancroft. I think you'd better pull over, BA."
