Elizabeth's Regret
"This rain is strange," Jack said. "It's all white and fluffy."
"That's not rain," Elizabeth said. "It's something different, called snow." She
pulled the blanket around her shoulders.
"Oh yeah," Jack said, squinting at a snowflake that had landed on his nose.
"Haven't seen snow for years. Don't get it much around my neck of the woods."
"Well we're not in your neck of the woods anymore!" Elizabeth jumped to her feet
and they both felt the deck shudder as she moved. She froze in place then moved
more cautiously. "Thanks to you annoying a giant demon we're now stuck on a
ship, stuck on a mountain and we're going to freeze to death."
"I only told him horns were so last year." Jack waved a dismissive hand.
"Anyway, Agrelfet and me? Old friends. We're like that." He held up his crossed
fingers. "He'll be back in a while. He's just teasing."
"Will we still be alive?"
"Well, I do recall that huddling together for warmth is recommended in these
situations." He smirked and smoothed his moustache.
"So is warm clothing," Elizabeth said. "Have we got any?"
"No." Jack smirked some more. "The nearest we've got is a big chest full of wool
below decks. Slight mix up there in a raid. So, that leaves us with the first
option again."
"Wool, eh?" Elizabeth looked at him for a good long time, then sighed. "Why did
I never learn to knit?"
