Vandalism
"Okay, who's been drawing on the gorram walls?"
As if he needed to ask. Now she was drawing on the floor of a corridor, a big
wax stick in her hand, the type Kaylee used to mark things up to work on.
"What is she doing?" Mal asked Simon, who stood watching his sister kneeling and
slowly drawing long lines along the deck.
"I don't know. Why do you always assume I know?"
"You're supposed to be the expert on her."
"No." Simon scowled. "The people who did this to her mind are the experts on
her."
"You got the contact details for any of them?"
"It flows." The two men looked down at River. "It flows. Like water. But not
water. Too hot."
"Hot?" Mal bent down and touched the floor. "Don't feel hot to me."
"It flows." She moved on down the corridor, Simon getting out of her way.
"My dad used to give me a walloping for writing on the walls at home when I was
a young un," Mal said. "She's gonna clean this up, right?"
"What? Oh, yes, of course. Aren't you the least bit curious as to what she's
actually drawing?"
"Right now, I'm the least bit hungry and don't have time for this."
Kaylee appeared at the end of the corridor and smiled at them as she approached.
"Hi, guys. What's River doing?" She looked down at the lines on the floor.
"It flows," River said again.
"Oh!" Kayle said, looking surprised. "Yes. Yes it does. Hey, that could be
useful to me. I need to trace a power drain. You've got them perfect I think."
She frowned. "How do you do that?"
"It's hot."
"Wait, you know what she's drawing?" Mal asked.
Kaylee looked up from River's lines on the floor. "It's the power conduits.
She's tracing the exact paths of the power conduits underneath the deck
plating."
Kaylee, Mal and Simon stared down at River for a moment. Her line went off on a
right angle and crossed the corridor to reach the wall and start to rise. River
drew a long line up the bulkhead, stretching to her full height.
"It flows."
