Tough Nut

"Ain't no dog!"

I hate it when Murdock talks about that darn dog. That darn dog that ain't there.

But I really hate it when Hannibal and Face start encouraging him. Even Amy joins in.

"I don't want to step on his tail."

"Ain't no dog!"

I hate it.

Murdock was always a nut, even when I first met him in Nam. But he didn't have no imaginary animals around the place. That came later. After the camps.

Why the heck do the guys act like Murdock really has a dog? Do they think that helps him? How can that help him? Something gotta keep the fool in the real world.

Something or someone.

So I gotta be a nut too. A tough nut. Lucky that comes natural to me.
